Program: Research Internship Program at the National Institute of Genetics (NIG) / Department of Genetics, SOKENDAI

Program Type: Internship
Funding: NIG will cover round-trip airfare, transportation, and accommodation fees for the designated period of June 15th to July 26th, 2023. Living and miscellaneous expenses are the responsibility of the interns.
Program Expectations: Interns will conduct independent research under the mentorship of a host investigator at NIG and participate in training on scientific research and communication, lab visits, and various activities such as graduate program lectures, journal clubs, and seminars. Japanese language classes are also available. At the end of the program, interns will give a presentation at the NIGINTERN Reports Symposium and receive a certificate of completion.
Requirements:
Applicants must be in their pre final year at the time of application, which includes the 3rd year of a 4-year bachelor’s program, the 2nd year of a 3-year bachelor’s program, the 4th year of a 5-year program, the 1st year of a 2-year master’s program, or the 5th year of a 6-year program.
Students interested in enrolling in the NIG PhD program are encouraged to apply. Non-pre final students and students in a PhD course are not considered due to the highly competitive selection process.
Applicants must be interested in life sciences and proficient in English.
Eligibility:
The program is open to students from any country / nationality who live outside of Japan at the time of application.
Deadline:
The online application system is open from November 28th, 2022 to January 6th, 2023 (Japan Standard Time).

Other Information:
Out of over 750 applications, only 9 highly-qualified students were selected for the 2022 program. The number of successful applicants varies from year to year.
