St. Mary’s University, established in 1998, is an Ethiopian institution of higher learning located in the capital Addis Ababa. After fifteen years of service as a college first and a university college since 2008, it earned university status from the Ethiopian Ministry of Education in September 2013.The university has four campuses in Addis Ababa, 13 Distance Education Regional Centers, and 160 Coordination Offices throughout the country. It has 200 full-time academic staff and 1000 employees. It caters to the needs of six thousand undergraduate students, twenty thousand students enrolled in distance education programs, and two thousand students in graduate programs. Eight graduate programs are run in partnership with Indira Gandhi National Open University. These programs include Business Administration, Public Administration, Library and Information Science, Sociology, Economics, Commerce, Rural Development and Political Science in the distance mode of learning.
St. Mary’s University offers undergraduate and graduate programs in diverse fields of studies in the conventional and distance modes of learning fully accredited by the national quality assurance organization. At present, it offers programmes in Accounting, Computing Science, Management, Marketing Management, and Tourism and Hospitality Management in the regular and extension classes at undergraduate level. The regular graduate programmes offered by the School of Graduate Studies include MBA programmes in General Management, Human Resource Management, Accounting and Finance, Impact Entrepreneurship, Project Management and Masters in Marketing Management, Development Economics, Computer Science, Agri-Economics, Development Management, Social Work and Quality and Productivity Management.
Campuses
St. Mary’s University has two campuses. Its main office, where the School of Graduate Studies and the College of Open and Distance Learning are housed, is a walking distance from the Head Quarters of the African Union. The Undergraduate Campus is half a kilo meter away from it. Both campuses are located at the transport hub of the city, Mexico Square.
Mexico Campus
The regular and extension programs are offered at Mexico Campus where, the Executive Vice President’s office and other offices of the faculties of Business, and Informatics are located. Moreover, various offices providing services to the student body are also housed in this campus.
Main Campus
The Main campus located 300 meters below the Federal Police Head Quarters at Mexico Square houses the School of Graduate Studies, the headquarters of the university and the college of open and distance learning.
The overall distance provision is coordinated and managed from the Main Campus. Currently, there are more than 100 coordinating centers of distance education throughout the country. This campus also houses the office of the President, the vice President for Open and Distance Learning, the V/P for Business and Administration and the School of Graduate Studies.
