The Cornerstone of Injibara University was laid down on February 8, 2015 Injibara University is situated in Awi Zone which is one of 10 Zones in the Amhara National Regional state of Ethiopia. Awizone is bordered on the west by Benishangul-Gumuz Region, on the north by North Gondar Zone and on the east by West Gojjam. The administrative Centre of Awi is Injibara; other towns include Chagni, and Dangila. The name of the university has been picked from the name of the administrative town center. Awi have traditionally practiced a land-management system which is well adapted to the local ecology, which enable them to sustain the fertility of the soil and minimize erosion; this area is recognized as one of the most productive area in the Amhara regional state.

Injibara University intends to produce competent graduates which can respond to resilient green economy Initiatives of the Government of Ethiopia and beyond. The Green campus, Energy and curriculum will be the brand of the University. The teaching and learning will be oriented to entrepreneurship and job creation. As a result, the formal and informal curriculum shall be oriented to support green economy initiatives and entrepreneurship/business development/. Creativity, innovation and governance shall be the day to day activity of the University by putting feasible strategies, implementation modalities and periodic monitoring and evaluation.

The university is well situated and endowed with high rain fall that extending for a period of more
than 6 months, fertile soil, continuous water supply and Green Mountains. Integrating the research, teaching and community service activities with natural resources conservation and utilization and advancement of green initiatives is paramount importance in our training and research programs
