What does a Medical Laboratory technician do?

Conduct routine medical laboratory testing for disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Working under the supervision of a medical technologist is possible.

On the job, you would:

  1. Do chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood or urine using a microscope or an automatic analyzer to discover anomalies or diseases, and enter the results into a computer.
  2. Using particular mechanical or electrical devices, analyze the results of tests or experiments to confirm adherence to standards. Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test medical laboratory equipment for sterility.
